Savannah Wedding Photographer – Sara & Michael – Jekyll Island

Every time I get to photograph on Jekyll Island, I find something else to love about that place. Luckily, I got the chance to photograph Sara and Michael down there who wanted to do something very different. After a very short ceremony on the beach, the 3 of us headed out for 2 hours around the island just taking photographs. It was amazing! After leaving the beach, we headed to my favorite BBQ place in the world which is just off the island. Once we grabbed a bite to eat and shot a few photographs there, we headed back onto the island where we stopped in the marsh to take advantage of the amazing light. Then we headed back to their hotel where I was able to capture a sweet moment of the two of them on their balcony. Sara and Michael come from Tampa, and chose Jekyll to get away from it all. Sara sported a light weight dress which we had fun with in the wind, and had a beautiful bouquet from Kiwi Fleur.

Savannah Wedding Photographer – Jennifer & Jeff – Savannah Elopement

I could not have asked for a sweeter couple! Jennifer and Jeff hail from Alabama and had been together for nearly 10 years. One day they decided to get married, and picked Savannah as their choice location. The wedding took place at the historical Gastonian Inn, and consisted of just Jennifer, Jeff, Jeff’s brother and his girlfriend, the minister, and myself. Jennifer wore an amazing dress and had a gorgeous head piece which showed off her taste for 1920′s fashion. With flowers done by Garden on the Square, and another fantastic ceremony by Steven Schulte, it really was just a sweet, simple, and beautiful wedding… and another reminder of why this job is so great. Congrats Jennifer & Jeff!!

Marcy and Fran were a lovely couple married in DC, who also happen to be good friends of our lead photographer, which made the experience all the more wonderful for everyone involved. There were some wonderful details at this wedding… including beautiful flowers and a scrumptious looking cake! It was an intimate affair with close friends and family, one full of love and joy for the happy couple. Congratulations Marcy and Fran!

Savannah Wedding Hair & Makeup Stylist: Ony Salon & Dollface by Jules

This past March, I had the pleasure to photograph a bride who was prettied up by Tiffony Simpson of Ony Salon, and Jules De Jesus of Dollface by Jules. Tiffony was kind enough to email me and set up a time for us 3 get get coffee and get to know each other better.

Both moved to Savannah just a few years ago, and by the forces of the universe, they started getting hired to work on the same brides, photo shoots, and film shoots even though they had never met before. Over time, a friendship began… and now they are an amazing hair & makeup team, which is a force to be reckoned with in Savannah.

While talking with them, I learned quite a bit about the way hair and make up is done. Apparently, with cameras having more and more megapixels, and HD becoming more popular with video, there are new techniques and methods for everything… and these girls have it! Jules can even do airbrushing. Not photoshop airbrushing, but actual airbrushing. It was very cool to hear about.

As a wedding photographer, I am fully aware that having a talented team to work with is a great thing. If you can have a hair stylist AND make up artist who are equally talented and work well with each other, then you have a winning combination.

Both are incredibly dedicated artisans, and do everything in their power to listen and accomplish exactly what the bride is expecting. The dress is only half the battle for making a bride look good. You need great hair and makeup for the finishing touch.

Savannah Wedding Planners: First City Events

While walking around Forsyth last week, I ran into a Bonnie Carr of First City Events. She was working a wedding, so we couldn’t chat for long, but we made a date to get some coffee to catch up. It was funny to run into her because one of the very first weddings I photographed in Savannah had Bonnie as the event planner. She is just as sweet as ever, and I hope everyone who is planning on getting married in Savannah will at the very least take a peak at her website – www.firstcityevents.com.

Bonnie is originally from Richmond Hill, GA and went to Georgia State University for her degree in hospitality. She moved to Savannah a few years ago with her husband Jeff (who is a DJ) and it seems that they are just thriving in Savannah with their weddings and events.

I remember her being a delight to work with, and it was so much fun catching up with her. She was very professional and on the ball.

As a Savannah wedding photographer, I am always hoping for the opportunity to work with great wedding planners… and Bonnie is definitely one of them.

Savannah Engagement Photography: Jamie & Jared

Jamie and Jared wanted their engagement photos taken during arguably one of the most beautiful times in Washington DC, the cherry blossom festival. Not only were the cherry blossoms in full bloom, but so was the love between this fun-loving couple. Their wedding is in DC on October 16th, so it only seemed appropriate to photograph here. We started in Georgetown, and made our way to the tidal basin with the beautiful cherry blossoms, and finished at the fisherman’s wharf, a place the couple enjoys. Jamie was full of life, loving to smile and have fun, a sharp contrast from her work week as a lawyer. As is typical with our engaged couples, the grooms to be are timid in front of the camera as he is used to being behind the scenes with his computer, but quickly warmed up with Jamie by his side. Congratulations to this wonderful couple; we can’t wait to see you again in October!

Many of you may remember Meg’s work from the wonderful produced shoots from Jekyll Island back in October. The beach wedding (right photo) was featured in the latest issue of Savannah Weddings magazine as well. Meg is a talented graphic designer currently residing in the historic city of Savannah. Not wanting to limit herself to the strict world of corporate design, Meg enjoys spending her days designing beautiful invitation suites for couples that are completely customized to match their very special day. She is available for items as simple as invitations and save-the-dates, but is by no means limited to them, creating anything from favor bags and tags, menus, programs, thank you card’s, wedding signs, or anything else involving design for your wedding. Though Meg is based on Savannah, she works with couples all over the country to help them create the paper goods needed to set the tone for their wedding day. You can see more of her work here.

Savannah Engagement Photography: Heather & Patrick

Heather and Patrick were so much fun to hang out with on a beautiful day in Savannah. They wanted a little variety for their engagement shoot before their October 2nd wedding in North Carolina. Since they were up for a little travel, we started in beautiful and historic Forsyth Park underneath the famous oak trees and in front of the Forsyth Fountain. Then we headed on over to the sandy beach at Tybee Island. Heather was so much fun, thoroughly enjoying the afternoon with her camera shy fiance. Patrick opened up as the day went on; it’s hard not to with Heather’s contagious laughter. The pair has had a lot of laughs over the years as they started out as high school sweethearts. Congratulations Heather and Patrick, and we can’t wait until your beautiful wedding in October!

Tony Brown lives in our nation’s capital of Washington, DC, but enjoys traveling the country shooting weddings as a member of the Blue Door Photography team. He attended school in New York just outside Manhattan, where he studied political science, but began working as a wedding photographer immediately after college. Since then he has been working as a wedding photographer for 12 years and is known for always trying to push the envelope, and keeping up with everything going on around him.
